The first printing of Farr's preliminary report describing the use of the Scheutz calculator to prepare life tables, published five years before his English Life Tables (1864, see Garrison & Morton 1700.1), and representing the very earliest application of computers to medical statistics. The table was one of the greatest achievements of William Farr, the Scheutzes and, of course, Charles Babbage, who was inspirational in this project. Modern boards. .
