The songs and illustrations are all of a lusty nature, beginning with the ancient chanson "Les Trois Orfevres a la Saint Eloi." In his preface the "Vidame de Bozegie" (one assumes this is a pseudonym) he says he refrained from giving the illustrations an erotic character: "They are clearly licentious, but will not shock eyes that are too puritan.
