Contemporary ink annotations, correcting all the errors noted in the errata, a few marginal pencil marks from a later owner. Old ink annotation about Epictetus affixed to front pastedown. A good copy. Of George Stanhope (1660–1728) John Evelyn remarked: "This Mr Stanhop[e], is certainly one of the most accomplish[ed] preachers that in my life I ever heard, both for Matter, Eloquence, Action, Voice, Authority: & one of an excellent Conversation as I am told' (Evelyn, 5.223, quoted in DNB). This translation went through a number of editions.
