London, (1983): Sidgwick and Jackson Limited. First Edition. Folio. 261pp. Illustrated in color and in black and white with a foreword by Jessica Rawson, Deputy Keeper of the Department of Oriental Antiquities in the British Museum. The bronzes represented are some of the treasures found in Yunnan, an area lying in the south west of China, on the shoulder of south east Asia. A few of the bronzes may date from an earlier period, but all illustrated are from the fourth century B.C. and later. The scenes depicted on many of the bronzes show the society was an agricultural people and they also show it was a slave-owning society. Some depict religious scenes, weaving and spinning, preparing meals, dancing and playing instruments, burial ceremonies and sacrifices of humans and animals yet others depict hunting wild boar, deer and tigers and the arts of war. A fine bright copy bound in a gray-green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, in a near fine pictorial dust jacket.
