Koepp studied in Bonn with Hermann Usener and Franz Bücheler, as well as in Göttingen with Karl Dilthey (an uncle of Koepp) and promoted with a theme of the Greek legend (Gigantomachie). In the spring of 1884 he visited the ancient sites of Greece for the first time, took part in the excavations of Pergamon and had long stays in Rome, Naples and Pompeii. In 1887 he accepted a position as assistant to the Imperial Archaeological Institute in Berlin. In 1891 he became professor of the relations between Greece and Persia and Alexander. In 1896 Koepp left Berlin and took a lecture for archeology and history in Münster. 35 pp. Illustrated with 23 textual illustrations and three full page plates at the rear depicting ancient Greece horse harnesses. Bound in 3/4 brown pebble grained cloth over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettering gilt, very light occasional spots of foxing, previous owner's book plate and signature dated 1896. A very good copy.
