c1750. · [Leipzig]:
by Schenk, Peter.
Engraved double page map (23 1/2" x 20 1/2"), partially hand colored, large decorative title cartouche, edges with two columns of text. Archival tape repair in middle of the bottom margin, normal aging; otherwise about near fine. Very nice impression. Peter Schenk (1693-1775) was the son of Peter Schenk the Elder, another well-known Dutch cartographer. He was a fairly prolific mapmaker, and appears to have been active in Leipzig. The present map is bright and attractive, and is of the town and region of Weissenfels. It is very similar to a map published by Mathew Seutter a few years earlier. The map includes a larger decorative cartouche, which contains the title. Bagrow: History of Cartography. (Inventory #: 104152)
