Ink inscription in a fine old hand dated 1864 on a front preliminary. Paper is toned, several larger brown spots. According to BAL 145, this is the second issue of the first edition with the advert at the back of the book showing the fourth edition of Wendell Phillips Speeches. The book is series of six letters Miss Alcott sent to her family while she was working as a nurse at the Union Hospital in Georgetown, D.C.in 1862-63. 102pp + ads.
