More than 150 black-and-white illustrations. chronology. A fine copy bound in green cloth lettered in silver in a fine pictorial dust jacket in protective mylar. Produced in association with the Cincinnati Art Museum, who stood in the shadow of his contemporaries, Frederick Remington and Charlie Russell, his paintings devoted his work to the Indians in their environment. His work in this area often is seen as particularly brilliant in his use of oils and gouache from his studies not only in Europe but what he learned from the Japanese prints. He used photographs to maintain accuracy and perhaps was more sympathetic to the character of the American Indian than any of the other painters of his generation. Along with the work of Curtis, the character and culture of the various tribes he painted are essential for the both the art collector and the art historian. (Inventory #: 018507)
