Hardcover

by Saussy, Haun
New York: Chambers Fine Art, 2011. Hardcover. VG+ with faint rubbing to covers and small red stain to page bottoms when closed at very lower right corner edge.. Slate boards with black lettering.Unpaginated with approx. 200 pp. Color-illus. throughout. Text in Chinese and English. With a title essay by Saussy. Stunning, mesmerizing, and fascinating. The Seven Layered Shell is made of 186 components, a group of 7 works created from hand-dyed and waxed paper cut-outs, cotton thread, Xuan paper, and silk. Each is on 3 sheets of Xuan paper and silk. Includes over-all views and extremely detailed views, with singular images of each of the 186 components. Also included is Wu's vivid creation, Rainbow, with preliminary drawings and several views of the finished work. Both pieces' themes are centered on the human body. To explain here would do injustice to both the artist and to the in-depth explanation in the fine essay. (Inventory #: 147489)
