New Orleans [LA]: T.H. Thomason, Printer, 26 and 28 Bank Place, 1879. Black lettered green paperwraps, stitched (stitching broken, signatures separating). 22 cm. 16 pp. Some shallow chipping to wrappers, wear to spine edge. One manuscript correction in ink on the first page [changing "devastates" to "desolates"]. Lightly creased vertically from folding, else a very good copy. Hayes arrived in New Orleans in 1844, after studying medicine in Paris. He observed both the devastating yellow fever outbreaks of 1853 and 1878 in the city, and developed theories as to causes and cures. His experiences with the disease led him to believe that lack of oxygen was a main cause, and treatment could be best effected by air circulation, rest and restriction of food intake. Both his original treatise of 1858, and this one advocated such a cure. Ten listings on OCLC: Samford Univ., Univ. of Alabama, Hist. New Orleans, New Orleans Pub.
