London: Morden, Robert. unbound. Miniature map. Uncolored engraving. Sheet measures 7.75" x 6.25". Beautiful miniature map of the Barbary Coast in northern Africa dating to circa 1687. Divided in two sections, the top section features a map of West Barbary including the coast of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The bottom section features a map of East Barbary and covers from Libya to Egypt and the Nile Delta. Beautifully details the Barbary Coast which was at the time known for the Barbary Pirates, who for centuries, terrorized the Western Mediterranean. Notes important cities and topography. Map is in good condition with minor spotting and edge wear along right margins. Robert Morden was an English publisher, mapmaker and bookseller in the late 17th century and early 18th century. One of the first successful commercial map makers, he also produced a series of miniature maps of the world, of which this map is a beautiful example. (Inventory #: 262944)
