Raleig: Printed at the Recorder Office, 1846. 26pp. Original yellow printed wrappers, rear wrapper lacking. Front wrapper and outer leaves lightly stained. Contemporary inscription at head of titlepage. A good copy. Includes a lengthy attack on books that "deprave the taste and corrupt the affections." Moore writes: "This species of reading, quickly becomes a passion, creates a dreamy existence, from which the victim awakes with the same restless feelings, as does the confirmed eater of opium; both alike, find life intolerable, without the poison, which first imparted, and now, at once, continues the disease and furnishes a momentary comfort." He follows these remarks with similarly stern observations on public service and the dangers of infidelity. Contemporary inscription on titlepage reads: "With the respects of H. Norwood.
