THE DIARY OF A FORTY-NINER
1920 · Boston
by Canfield, Chauncey L. [ ed
Boston, 1920. xviii,253pp. Including frontispiece map. Original cloth. Bookplate. Very good. Second printing, after the first of 1906. There has been some question as to the authenticity of this California gold mining diary, but it was supposed to have been kept by Alfred T. Jackson of Norfolk, Ct., and covers the period from May 18, 1850 to June 17, 1852. Canfield, in his preface, states that the original leather-bound journal of some three hundred pages had every evidence of genuineness. HOWES C111. COWAN, p.104. GRAFF 571. KURUTZ 114b.
