New York: Scribner, Welford, and Armstrong, 1876. Hardcover. G- (Has substantial wear and soil marks to binding; hinges are loose; back hinge has interior tape; pages are nicely aged with no foxing but some natural bleed-through of illus. from one page to another.). Green cloth, gilt letters on spine & front cover; 276 pp., many BW woodcut illus. A nice handbook presenting examples of the decorative arts (i.e. "industrial," back in the day) as found in the collections of the South Kensington museum. Chapters feature: Gold and silver work; Bronze, copper, and iron; Enamels; Furniture; Ivories; Pottery and porcelain; Maiolica; Glass; Mosaics; Arms and armour; Textile fabrics; and Lace. The hundreds of small woodcuts are also quite nice. Not the prettiest volume on the shelf, but an interesting one, nevertheless.
