About the history of the Chemische Fabrik Urban & Lemm is little known. Certainly Otto John Lemm (1867-1920) owned the late nineteenth century. Under his leadership came to the factory, manufacturer of shoe polish, leather grease and polishes (eg "Blendol") to fruition. The company gave a kind of trading stamps and to increase sales of wax put one in each eye a fifth pfenningstuk. Otto Lemm left in 1907-08 in Gatow a capital villa with outbuildings designs by architect Max Werner. After the death of Otto in 1920, he was buried in the mausoleum also designed by Werner in the cemetery of Charlottenburg. The mausoleum is an image made in mosaic villa Lemm. Villa Lemm was between 1945 and 1990, the official residence of the British city commander. When visiting the British royal family to Berlin they stayed in villa Lemm.
The son of Otto Hellmuth Lemm (1901-1989) worked in the family business, the advertising department and Erdal sales leader Gummischuhfabrik Tretorn & Calmon before he took over in 1936 Schuhfabriek ROMIKA. (Inventory #: 262873)
