Thomson Edition, one of 250 large paper copies(8x10 inches) for Britain, with another 25 done for America. The top fore edge gold gilt, here faded. Decorated title page, frontispiece, and large illustrations, 160 line drawings in all (printed on special China paper and laid down) by Hugh Thompson printed on unbleached Arnold paper. Original cloth covers have wear and some staining, pages have some foxing. bookmark attached to front paste-down. Previous owner's inscription on front free end paper. The trade edition of this book was decorated with a peacock design similar to the design on the first internal page of text in this copy. Thomson's illustrations became the illustrations of choice for Austen's work. Book comes in specially made cloth slipcase.
