by Ommundsen, H. and Ernest H. Robinson
New York: Funk & Wagnalls Company, 1915. Hardcover. Good-, clean contents but with some age toning to page edges and ex-lib. marks (plate, pocket, and perforation stamps on title page and plates). Covers showing wear - rubbing, fraying, bumping, some soiling, cocking. Ballistics chapter has been torn out, not entirely neatly. Still, book has a solid spine and contents. A great reference copy.. Navy blue library buckram with gilt lettering and library call number. 335 pp. with bw frontis, 63 bw plates, and a bw folding nomograph of rifle elevation. MISSING chapter on basic ballistics (pp. 205-215 with one bw plate). Divided into two sections, Historical and General and Practical Rifle Shooting, with 13 and 14 subsections respectively. Section 1 covers projectiles, propellants, muzzle loaders, cartridge, bolt-action and magazine, bullet diameter, smokeless rifle powder, military and sporting rifles and ammunition, the .22, and simple ballistics (missing). Section 2 covers shooting in war/field/range, trigger pulling, aiming, judging distance, wind, trajectory, cant, rifle care, the NRA and other rifle associations (colonial and foreign). Includes a list of plates. Comprehensive, with very good visuals.
