Hardbound
1851 · London
London: George Virtue, 1851. Hardbound. F+ (Both boards have separated from book block and are present; most of outer spine material is gone; ex-art library with bookplate and few marks; pages are aging but are otherwise remarkably clean, however, making this a perfect candidate for rebinding.). Marbled boards with leather spine & corners, marbled flyleaves, 328 pp. 100s of wood engravings. Showcases many of the sights seen at The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations, held in London during the summer of 1851. With essays about the exhibition history and background about some of the general subject categories shown there, enhanced by hundreds of engravings that bring the exhibition right to your room, more than a century and a half later. Marvelous stuff.
