Octavo (8vo). xx, 610 pages of text, followed by [viii] index and [ii] publisher's advertisement. Signed and inscribed on the front endpaper by the author "To Dr. J. C. Hill with the joys of zeros lowest. [signed] Frederick A. Cook." Original green hardcover cloth binding is heavily shelfworn and soiled. The front inner hinge is weakened and the front endpaper and frontisportrait have a few tiny chips along the edge as a result of them being loosened. Illustrated with 31 historic black & white photographs and many in-text drawings. On the title page, it is stated that this is the "Press Edition" and that by special arrangements this edition is marketed by The Polar Publishing Co. of Chicago. First edition, third printing..
