A seemingly impossible romance between two mature individuals, one unhappily married; Crawford, a prolific and best-selling author, includes extended meditations on divorce and on women's rights, with the latter focusing on the perceived undesirability of trading the right to vote for the privilege of being supported by a man. This is an early reissue, marked "tenth thousand," of the first edition of the same year.
Binding: Publisher's terra-cotta cloth, front cover stamped with gilt rose and ribbon design, spine with similar motifs; front cover => signed "G.W.E." — George Wharton Edwards.
