Blindstamp of the Library of Congress copyright office. A retelling of the death of Amos J. Stillwell (1828-1888) who was murdered with an axe. This fictionalized record of a society murder in Hannibal involved reports that Stillwell's wife conspired with Joseph Carter Hearne, a local surgeon with whom she had fallen in love, to murder her husband.
