Contemporary polished calf, rebacked, gilt-stamped lettering in red and brown leather spine labels, gilt-stamped ornament direct in spine compartments (5 raised bands), gilt-stamped lion and dove decorations at board corners; complete set of 3 volumes, 4to (240x192mm); pp. [2], 6, xxxvi, 526; [4], xxxiv, 383; [xiv], 218, 150, [35]; with half-title pages, extra engraved titles in volumes 1 and 3, engraved allegorical frontispiece portrait in volume 2, folding map and 16 additional engraved plates (3 folding), engraved titles and chapter titles by Picart, Tanjge and Bernaerts. Bindings lightly worn, with a few small scuff marks and professional restorations to boards; spines a little dry, with some thin cracks along joints. Intermittent but generally light spotting and soiling; a few leaves with short marginal tears, including professionally repaired fore-edge margins of final 4 leaves in Volume 1. Presents nicely, despite flaws.
