1908 · Boston
Grenfell was a British-born medical missionary to Newfoundland and Labrador. The present work is his personal narrative of the disaster that befell him in 1908, when he fell through the ice with his dogsled, rescuing himself by clambering onto an ice pan with his dogs. But the pan drifted out to sea and was rescued the next day by local fishermen.
The booklet was used as a fundraiser for The Grenfell Association of America for Aiding Philanthropic Work Among the Deep Sea Fishermen of Labrador.
This copy with two autograph letter by William Howell Reed of the New England Chapter of the Grenfell Association talking about the booklet and Grenfell. Text loose in the green wrappers. Wrappers chipped and have an owner's rubber stamp. Underlining in the text by an interested reader. A good copy with interesting added matter unique to this copy. (Inventory #: 35776)
