(The engraved title is dated 1655 as the fourth part is 'newly corrected' but also dated 1654, so likely bound from original sheets and issued in 1655.) Recent full period-style mottled calf, four raised bands, resewn, with red morocco spine label, and new endpapers. , 142; , 119; , 144; , 72,  pp. Some light offsetting and occasional light foxing. Occasional older inked marginalia (generally an X in the margin). Engraved title with a small chip missing at upper margin, professionally repaired. Previous owner has inked Balzac's birth date to engraved Small hole to bottom of pages 3 and 4 of the Preface, and a small closed tear to bottom edge of pages 5 and 6 of the Preface.
