One of the elaborate annual publications for William Andrews Clark, issued each year at Christmas; this one has his Christmas greetings slip tipped to the front free endpaper and was sent to San Francisco book collector Morgan Gunst. Clark's version of Father Damien has an excellent introduction about Damien and Stevenson, and the second octavo volume contains a facsimile of the original pamphlet, which was published in Sydney, Australia in 1890. John Henry Nash's publications for Clark are legendary in their extravagance; their cost of production probably exceed their value today; and they kept John Henry Nash in buisness during very difficult times.
From the library of San Francisco book collector Morgan A. Gunst. (Inventory #: 27004)
