Orsato was an Italian scholar and archaeologist known for influential works in both Italian and Latin. “Poetry was his amusement, and we have several volumes of his Lyric and other poems in Italian; but his serious object was, [sic] Antiquities, and Ancient Inscriptions. Towards the latter part of his life, he was professor of philosophy at Padua. He wrote the “History of Padua” in Italian, and presented it to the doge and senate of Venice: but, during a long discourse he made upon this occasion, a natural call came upon him, the checking of which occasioned a suppression of urine; and of this he died in 1678” (Owen & Johnston, p. 73). Includes a life of Orsato.
