Half-title, frontispiece, engraved pictorial title-page and regular title page, 36 exquisite full page engravings of the animal characters by Wilhelm Von Kaulbach, engraved by Rudolfe Rahn (17 which includes frontispiece)and Adrian Scheich (17), Steifendand (1) and one unknown engraver, includes the suppressed plate on page 42, several pictorial head and tail pieces. 257pp. Superbly bound in full red morocco elaborately decorated on gilt, spine and lower board gilt, white silk moiré endpapers, all edges gilt. Binding is signed along the lower edge of both boards but undecipherable. Fromthe libraries of V. Hagens and Paul E. Geiea. A fabulous copy without foxing housed in publisher's original lined box with wear.
