Mr. Mayes was truly an architect of the people. He continued to design residential buildings until his death in 1966. His houses line many streets in Denison, Sherman and surrounding towns. Mr. Mayes liked unusual sites, and many photos show multilevel houses blending into trees and terraces.' (A.C. Greene). Prominent Dallas architect, Frank Welch, trained under Mr. Mayes.
