Camp White Plains, NY, 1778. unbound. 1 page, 7.5 x 8 inches, signed "Nathan Preston," Camp White Plains, New York, July 24, 1778 -- a requisition invoice acknowledging that he has received from William Little "two hundred sixty one pair of shoes" along with "sixty six pairs of stockings, seven pair of overalls...amounting in the whole as per invoice to one hundred & ninety six pounds ten shillings...for which I am to receive." Note: on the day that this letter was written, George Washington was in attendance at Camp White Plains where he wrote his famous communication to Gouverneur Morris in which he stated, "There is an evil more extensive in its nature and fatal in its consequences, to be apprehended, and that is, the driving of all our own officers out of the service, and throwing not only our army, but our military counsels, entirely into the hands of foreigners." Small chip at the top right corner with the loss of the date 1778; fortunately Preston dated the letter a second times beside his signature. Good condition. (Inventory #: 266594)
