The original laws of Harvard College, reproduced from a copy given to Harvard's library in 1799, with a brief introduction by Samuel A. Green. The laws dictate general conduct, including requirements for expression of religious devotion, as well as specifications for educational efforts and interaction between students. Green was a physician who served as a medical officer in the American Civil War, and afterwards was librarian for the Massachusetts Historical Society. This work and a number of others gleaned from the society's records were published during that time. He later became the mayor of Boston. We located 26 copies in institutional holdings, but none in the trade, and no auction records. (Inventory #: 2161245)
