Tips on Tables, being a guide to dining and wining in New York at 365 restaurants suitable to every mood and every purse
by Ross, George
New York: Covici Friede, 1934. Hardcover. Near Fine. First printing, 1934. 8vo, red cloth lettered in black, no jacket, handsome NYC map endpapers, 301 pp, not illustrated. Near fine with just a touch of soil, small dark stain on front board near base of spine, minor freckling to foredge. Very rare and one of the first post-Prohibition guides to NYC dining and night spots. Fairly forthright and amusing descriptions for each venue. For the Hotel Delmonico, to pick a random example, located at 59th and Park: 'This season's eligible young men and last season's debutantes get together at the Delmonico, where cocktail parties seem to take place at the rate of one per minute. [...] Nicholas Sebastian, of the original Delmonico's, is the culinary field marshal at the hotel and is among the best in the craft. Excellent table d'hote dinners are served for $2.50 and the imported champagne is only $8 a quart.'.
