New York, 1855. Four handcolored lithographs, visible areas approximately 18 3/4 x 21 1/4 inches. Expertly matted and handsomely framed to 31 1/2 x 36 1/2 inches. Some pale mat burn, minor pale spotting or discoloration, one small marginal tear. Very good. A complete set of the four prints comprising the "American Country Life" series from Currier & Ives, depicting rural America in each of the four seasons. The artist for the series was Frances F. "Fanny" Palmer, one of Currier & Ives most prolific collaborators. "There is no more interesting and appealing character among the group of artists who worked for Currier & Ives than Fanny Palmer. In an age when women, well-bred women in particular, did not generally work for a living Fanny Palmer for years did exacting, full-time work in order to support a large and dependent family....Her work...had great charm, homeliness, and a conscientious attention to detail" - Peters. Rarely encountered as a complete set. PETERS, CURRIER & IVES 2301, 2302, 2303, 2304. GALE, CURRIER & IVES: CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ 134, 135, 136, 137.
