Overall very good. In a half morocco and cloth folding case, spine gilt. Noted California bibliographer J. Gregg Layne's copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Published to coincide with the centennial of Serra's death, and including biographical information on the padre, as well as a history of the founding of the mission at Monterey. The portrait of Serra bound into this copy does not appear to have been originally issued with this work, though it was lithographed by the book's publisher, P.E. Dougherty.
