Contemporary blue boards with paper spines, manuscript paper labels, volume number written neatly on each spine. Early ownership signature on each titlepage. Quite clean internally. Near fine and in unsophisticated condition. Untrimmed. The tenth edition, after the first of 1777. The first edition of this work told the story of the discovery of America and the conquests of Mexico and Peru, using original sources. In the posthumous edition of 1796 material on Virginia and New England was added, included in subsequent editions. "Most highly regarded secondary source of its time..." - Howes.
