Richmond: Printed by John Dunlap and James Hayes, 1782. 38;-32pp. Folio. Half calf and marbled boards in antique style, leather label. Contemporary ink mathematical calculations on titlepage and first leaf of text, minor ink marginalia to a couple leaves, some toning. The second leaf is bound before the titlepage. Lacking titlepage of second work. Overall about very good. A rare pair of session laws from Virginia printed during the end of the American Revolution. Although the British had been defeated and expelled from Virginia the previous fall, the state was still on a war footing. Includes numerous acts corresponding to issues related to the war, with resolutions on paying allowances to the wives, parents, and families of soldiers; recruitment of troops to meet quotas; an act for recovery of slaves, horses, and other property lost during the war; an act regulating militia pay; an act concerning the "Certificates issued to the Officers and Soldiers of the Virginia Line," and more. Other acts address tobacco, paper money, the emancipation of certain slaves, defending and protecting the Chesapeake Bay, an act for incorporating the town of Richmond, an act to increase the reward for killing wolves, and numerous other local acts. Both works are extremely rare, with two copies of the first imprint, and no copies of the second in OCLC. EVANS 17782, 18281. ESTC W23691, W23692. OCLC 7107029.
