by [Federal Republic of Central America]
Guatemala, 1823. pp. plus initial integral blank. Folio, folded sheets. Untrimmed. Small dampstain to outer margin. Very clean. Near fine. A declaration outlining the guidelines of leadership within the Federal Republic of Central America. In July of 1823 Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Costa Rica met in Guatemala City, newly independent from Mexico, to form the Federal Republic of Central America. Leadership was in triumvirate and the document provides intricate detail regarding the expectations of those in executive power. The Federal Republic remained intact until 1840, after a series of disputes between liberals and conservatives caused the Republic to fall into civil war and dissolve. Only one copy is located, in the National Library of Chile. (Inventory #: WRCAM49738)
