RAMBLES OVERLAND. A TRIP ACROSS THE CONTINEN
1884 · Boston
by Gunnison, Almo
Boston, 1884. 245pp. Original gilt pictorial cloth. Fine. The author travelled with a party of three others via the Great Northern to the Rockies, embarking then from Helena by stagecoach to San Francisco. After touring the state, the company departed for Colorado, taking the desert route, with a side-trip through Northern Mexico. Gunnison was awed by most of what he saw, and his sense of wonder transferred itself into a prose style rife with vaulted superlatives. COWAN, p.254. (Inventory #: WRCAM402)
