Bound in the original black paper covered boards with yellow lettering. The binding is bright and clean with slight wear to extremities. Evidence of tape residue and offset to prelims and rear pastedown. Rear free endpaper excised and last blank leaf with large tear and soiling. The dust wrapper is clean and bright with slight soiling and edgewear, spine faded. Overall a good only copy with a bit better dust wrapper. The irascible, irritable Abbey went on to much greater fame as an environmentalist but his literary career began here with his alter ego of Jonathan Troy. As is well known he disavowed the novel in later years and it was never reprinted. In his mind it was a youthful indiscretion better left forgotten.
