Used; Like New/Used; Like New. Mimeographed manuscript, text by Lucille Fletcher, music by Bernard Herrmann, 55 pp, 1951, bound in brads in pale green wrappers. Inscribed in ink on the preface, "For / Olive & George. / In deep appreciation / for their friendship and / encouragement during the / composition of this work. / from / Bernard / Feb 5/52," with a musical quotation. Wuthering Heights was Herrmann's only opera, and he began work on it while composing the film score for Jane Eyre (1943). This copy is inscribed to Olive and George Berendt, a Los Angeles couple who were philanthropists and music patrons. Herrmann was best known for his film scores, which included Citizen Kane (1941) and The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) as well as his long collaboration with Alfred Hitchcock, which included the films North by Northwest (1959) and Psycho (1960).
