This report consists mainly of a document dated Philadelphia, Feb. 15, 1831, compiled by Edward Smith, Stephen Duncan, and others promoting the importance of American iron manufacture as well as signed certificates by various mechanics "contradicting many of the assertions and statements contained in Sarchet's memorial." John Sarchet's memorial was printed by the United States Senate in the first session to promote the removal of imported iron duties.
