This romantic novel set in North Carolina, Florence, and Venice was written by prolific Catholic American author Frances Christine Fisher Tiernan (1846–1920). Tiernan, a North Carolinian, wrote under the name Christian Reid as a way to support her family during the Reconstruction.
Binding: 19th-century publisher's hunter green cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt with a black tree design; front cover stamped in black and gilt with a continuation of the branches and a setting sun.
