First edition, first issue with p.94 printed correctly, in Fine condition. THIS COPY IS INSCRIBED BY DODGSON ON THE FLYLEAF: "To the Very Rev. the Dean of Westminster with the author's kind regards, Jan. 1869." Arthur Penrhyn Stanley was a noted scholar, author and Dean of Westminster from 1864 until his death in 1881. Dodgson and Stanley were acquaintances at Oxford and later were mutually friendly with Henry Liddell, the father of Alice Liddell for whom Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written. Although Stanley was a controversial figure, he was close to members of the royal family and his wife was closely associated with Queen Victoria. Dodgson photographed Stanley and that photo is now in the National Portrait Gallery (UK). This is a beautiful copy of a solid association copy.
