1986. Blegvad, Erik. Original ink designs for an alphabet formed from cats, signed and dated by the artist. Blegvad was a prolific children's book artist, whose atmospheric ink drawings are often compared to Gorey and Sendak. His illustrations graced more than 100 picture books, of which the best known is probably Mary Norton's Bedknob and Broomstick. Each letter of this charming alphabet is composed of cats contorted (as is the nature of cats) into the shape of the letter. The images range from the humorous K, where a cat bites the tail of an unsuspecting feline victim, to the endearing E, where a mother cat nurses her kittens. These designs were eventually used for a set of rubber stamps. Framed in a simple white mat and black frame. Very fine. (Image measures 9 1/2 by 5 7/8 inches [24x15cm]; frame measures 13 5/8 by 10 1/8 inches [35x26cm]).
