Descriptive Catalogue of The PAINTINGS Now on Exhibition... of Celebrated Pictures of The Well-Known Dusseldorf Academy , With Several Interesting Additions
by Dusseldorf Academy; NY: Institute of Fine Arts, 1861
NY: George Russell, 1861. Softcover. VG, ancient ownership stamps. Yellow wraps. 53 pp. Begins with a Historical Sketch of The Dusseldorf School of Art. Interestingly, the pagination begins with an unnumbered page 27 and moves on to page 28, etc. Additionally, the listing of works in this exhibition begins with No. 146, Lessing's "Martyrdom Of John Huss", and proceeds through No. 250, with the addition at the end of six works of statuary. Several American artists are listed in the catalogue, Sonntag and Leutze being among them. Very fragile. It is possible that this catalogue is a complement to the regular exhibition at the Gallery of American works the same year, or the same season, with those items being numbered #1 - #145.
