Harvard University, 1994. Softcover. VG- (Ex-gallery with spine labels and few interior marks; illus. are grainy due to copying process.). Thesis. 2 vols. Spiral bound, with black plastic back covers; 280 leaves, BW illus. Thesis, long enough to span two spiral-bound volumes. "Examines the life, art, and teaching of the American artist, Frank Vincent DuMond (1865-1951) as a reflection of his personal philosophy. ... When all areas of DuMond's life are considered together, a picture of not merely an important artist or influential teacher, but of a great man emerges." (abstract) Unfortunately, the accompanying illustrations became grainy from the copying process. Still a solid treatment of this artist. Mellin won the Crite Prize in the Humanities for this research, and is still busy as an artist and a writer.
