(Oklahoma, Indian Territory), Invitation and Nowata Postmark
1893. . Invitation from Mrs. A.E. Oswald, Proprietor of the Casey Hotel, in Nowata (I.T.) to Norman Zahniser in Nowata. Norman Zanhnier and his wife Mary (maiden name Garner) had two sons born there before she died circa. 1900. Invitation is to the Grand Ball being held at the Hotel, included is postmark, dated January 13, 1893 and printed on card. The later papers of the Zahniser family are held at the Carlsbad Public Library. (Ellis Colton Zahniser was born in Indian Territory in Oklahoma in 1898. He removed to Californaa where he opened the Nash Zahniser Meat Market where a disgruntled customer, J. Frank White, shot him five times. Sheriff's deputies killed the assailant and Zahniser survived to continued his business in Carlsbad and living to 1985. (Inventory #: 018816)
