The book is a collection of six short pieces by Ross Thomas, which, as he notes in his introduction, are referred to in the newspaper trader as ‘thumbsuckers’: “Occasionally a newspaper editor will call and ask me to write a commentary (i.e., a thumbsucker) on some breaking news even, or perhaps on the death of a writer I may have admired, or - more frequently - to review a book that might interest me.” (Inventory #: 20845E)
