Daily Illinois Register and Typed Letter Signed by James Strohn Copley
Good. Ephemera. An issue of the Daily Illinois Register from December 23, 1883, which is eight pages folded. Chips, soil, a three-inch dampstain, and repairs along page folds. The unusual newspaper is 28" x 22" unfolded and is pink with gilt accent on ads. Due to its size only a quarter sheet is shown in the scan. Some text loss on folds. The newspaper issue belonged to journalist and newspaper publisher James Strohn Copley and is in a four-fold maroon cloth folder with Copley's bookplate inside. Gilt lettering on the spine indicates that the issue was a gift of Jay Slaven, who had worked at the Illinois newspaper. The typed letter signed by Copley and dated July 30, 1970 discusses the newspaper issue. ; 14 1/4" x 11 3/4" . (Inventory #: 010636)
