A small octavo measuring 81/2 by 5 1/2 inches. At the lower edge of the rear board a prior owner has neatly written in white ink a number. In a very good+ unclipped (but no price) dust jacket with light wear and rubbing around the edges of the spine area and panels and with a nearly rectangular 1 by 1/2 inch piece cut from the lower edge of the rear panel to expose the handwritten number at the lower edge of the rear board noted above. The author won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1943 for this title. 498 pages including an index, bibliography, genealogical data, text and illustrated with reproductions of contemporary art.
