New York: Coward McCann Inc., Publishers, 1929. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Illustrated by the author.. 4to. (20pp.) Blue cloth spine, colorfully illustrated paper over boards. Yellow endpapers. A fine, bright copy in a fine, bright dustwrapper. The story of Peter and his wooden horse who comes alive. As Bader notes, Coward-McCann in 1928 was just starting a juvenile catalog from scratch. This title was spotted by Ernestine Evans in Oslo during a scouting trip. By arrangement with the German publisher, who saw to the printing, it appeared on the Coward-McCann list that fall. (Bader, "American Picture Books", p . 30-31.) This is an exceptionally lovely and unworn copy. It would be hard, maybe impossible, to find one nicer.
